History

A proud History over three continents

In 1991, I successfully created a platform capable of carrying a two-ton load on a thin film of compressed air, earning recognition on a two-page center spread in the Personality Magazine. This magazine's monthly TV schedule ensured that my invention received considerable attention due to its popularity in every household in South Africa. Mr. Sol Kerzner then contracted me to re-engineer the functionality of the Bridge of Time. This structure, initially conceived in a static form, now required an earthquake effect. This vision was inspired by the potential Mr. Kerzner saw in my two-ton load-carrying prototype platform, a project that I had designed and created with the help of a local custom exhaust pipe maker. The 'I Beam' subframe formed the structural foundation for the two hundred and sixty-ton reinforced concrete base and the ring main air supply. A unique and innovative design created the world's largest hovercraft in the southern hemisphere, a one-of-a-kind structure that was built for the forty-meter platform. It features four sets of custom-designed 'Wobulators' that mimic earthquake simulation movements, which have run for thirty three years on a frictionless base of air adding a fascinating engineering detail to the project.  The Earthquake' Bridge of Time', a testament to enduring engineering, remains functional and intact at the Lost City to this day. It stands proudly as part of the spectacular Sun City/Lost City Casino complex in Bophuthatswana, South Africa, a symbol of the lasting impact of my team's work. Over the years, I have actively explored various technical fields to overcome challenges, beginning my career as a pupil  draughtsman at the Natal Drawing Office in Durban, South Africa. I later advanced my skills in architectural drawing as an assistant to the Principal Architect at Daniel Smit and Partners in Durban, where I played a key role in producing working drawings for the La Mercy Airport Project.  At an earlier time In 1975, I was conscripted into the SADF as a "Sapper" during the Bush War, specifically Operation Savannah in Angola. My rigorous training encompassed bridge building, structural engineering theory, explosives, and landmine discovery and disposal. Throughout my career, I have taken a proactive, hands-on role in various fields, including nuclear energy, robotics, engineering  design, chemical product manufacturing, military bomb disposal, aircraft engine assembly, and the transportation of uranium  enrichment equipment at UCOR Pelindaba, Sellafield, UK, among other significant projects. I have literally shaken hands with Robonaught and controlled the manipulation of tools inside the Devil's Cave, where radioactive waste is cut down to manageable sizes and placed in Stainless Steel flasks filled with molten glass to render the waste inert and safe for storage, transported on gentle platforms I have designed. I have walked in a Uranium enrichment plant deep underground, where zeppelin-sized chambers with glass-smooth floors enable the movement of massive, two-hundred-and-eighty-ton  compressors to be conducted on a thin film of air... I have seen things that put a twinkle in the eye and cause the soul to wail in grief. I have lived a fantastic life.
